Now for Something Different

February 28th, 2010 No comments

So I’ve typed this post a couple times on my phone app and it keeps losing it. So here’s the short short version.

I started this sketchblog with the intent of it only being character sketches. Well, guess what. Sometimes I just don’t have a character in me, but I sketch frequently and do nothing with them. Meanwhile this blog is negelcted. So as of now, I think, I will start posting sketches of all kinds.

Here’s a couple of monogram sketches. Give me some feedback because I am going to complete this one.

More Pedro

February 14th, 2010 No comments

This is another shot at copying Pedro Delgado’s work. I’m trying to learn how to break down someone else’s stuff into components. You can see the construction lines a little. Construction lines are something I’ve never really learned to do, but it turns out that they help a lot. Happy V day y’all.

Oh and I will give these last few a proper scan later on. For now just enjoy the iPhone shots.

Fire Good!

February 12th, 2010 No comments

Zippity doo-da! What happens when a robot discovers fire? He’s gonna figure out a way to smoke a cigar, that’s what. Either that or he’ll burn down the factory he currently slaves in. Smoke ‘em if ya got ‘em!

Mr. Squiggles

February 9th, 2010 No comments

SquigglesMeet Mr. Squiggles. He likes to hang out around old seafaring ships. There’s lots of good eats in those parts.

We got lucky, it’s rare to find one of his kind which is probably why he looks surprised. There’s only about 7 of them alive. Luckily for him, and us, they live for a very long time and are hard to kill so they don’t reproduce very often. Plus they’re all related and that would be weird.

I saw some old footage of one being attacked by a shark and upon the chomp it just squiggled out like Jell-O between the teeth. It reminded my of those sticky booger things you can throw against the wall and watch ‘em slink down.

Robo-Shrek

February 7th, 2010 No comments

SketchDuJour-2010-02-07I watched Shrek tonight while babysitting a couple of kids. I guess I just had Shrek on the brain, but I wanted to try something different with him. I keep trying to look for my “style”. Robots are definitely part of it, hence the Robo-Shrek.

Enjoy it. Comment on it. Later taters.

Mimicking Art

February 5th, 2010 No comments

GhostiesHello all. I recently purchased a Casper comic so that I could mimic the art in it. The art is by Pedro Delgado. I love this guy’s stuff.

Anyway, I’m gonna redraw this stuff for a bit and see if I can learn a thing or two. Sorry to disappoint anyone that’s expected something new and original from me. I gotta break out of the box I’m currently stuck in.

I love the teeth, mouth and eyes in these guys. Menacing yet laughable.

Sorry Folks. The Park’s Closed.

February 4th, 2010 No comments

No new sketch for today. I left me sketchbook at work. Since I am bound to some weird psychological obsession to start a book and finish it I can’t just sketch in any ol’ thing. All the sketches must be together. Like a famiy. Or a scrapbook. A timeline, if you will.

So enjoy some old stuff and check back tomorrow.

Yippee!

Stealer Elf

February 3rd, 2010 No comments

Stealer ElfYou know this guy. He’s part of the secret underground network of baddies that comes into your house and steals stuff. Like socks. But not the whole pair. Just one.

You would think this guy and his “kind” would only have one foot since they don’t need but the one sock. They just sit back in the shadows and laugh at us while they enjoy a different sock on each of their teensy tootsies.

“Honey, have you seen that (insert item name here)?” Of course she hasn’t. It’s been abducted by this guy. Or, at least, one of his pals.

What a jerk. I think this one’s name is Sal. He looks like a Sal. Shady and half stupid.

Beware the Noodle Monster

February 1st, 2010 No comments

Beware the Noodle MonsterYou all know this li’l stinker. It never fails when you’re eating a bowl of noodles with chopsticks and you try for a small bite and you just keep pulling and pulling, but you’re not quite adept enough to recalibrate your grip and so you just keep pulling and try to stuff it all in your mouth and then you look like an idiot with half a bowl of noodles bridging the gap between your face and the bowl as you sling sauce all over your new shirt.

Whew! Just writing about it makes me winded.

Just you try to avoid the Noodle Monster. I dare you. I say there’s no Pho King Way you can survive.
